Save Time, Save Roofs
Roof recovers made easy and cost effective with R-TECH
Roof recovery can be a time consuming and labor-intensive process. In an age where time is money and skilled labor is hard to come by, how can you simplify the roof recovery process to trim down jobsite hours and stay in the black? To reduce roof recovery costs, it is important to use insulation products that install easily and with minimal waste – getting workers off the roof as quickly as possible, while still providing an energy-efficient assembly. Here is a look at a few materials that meet this criteria.
One easy-to-use insulation option for roof recovers requiring a separator board is polymeric-faced R-TECH FF (Fanfold). Each EPS Fanfold bundle is available in standard sizes up to 200 square feet, and is comprised of 25 accordion-style attached panels that are 2 feet by 4 feet each. The panels come in various thicknesses to meet project needs. A typical two-square bundle also weighs less than 11 pounds, so it is easy for one person to carry.
R-TECH FF requires fewer fasteners per square foot than most roofing insulations, and is less expensive than virtually every other recover board. Installing Fanfold bundles requires about 60 percent less labor hours compared to working with individual sheets. Material costs are also lower than wood fiber, perlite or gypsum board. On large projects, the total savings can add up to tens of thousands of dollars.
Flute-Fill Insulation
Up to 70 percent of metal roofing jobs involve standing seams. Both architectural and structural standing seams make it challenging to create a flat, stable surface during roof recovers. Typically, crews must cut and place numerous pieces of insulation to fill the channels between the standing seams. An easier alternative is Insulfoam Flute-fill insulation, which is factory-cut to fit any metal roof flange profile (square, tapered, or profile-cut). By filling in the channels, contractors do not need to worry about their insulation’s ability to span the raised seams without failing. Flute-fill insulation also minimizes the use of insulation above the flutes, thereby reducing the possible need to raise curbs and other rooftop systems.
Other advantages of Insulfoam Flute-fill over other insulations include its ability to be custom-cut to fit any metal roof flange profile, and its range of compressive strengths suitable for nearly any roofing application. Insulfoam Flute-fill can also save up to 25 percent in costs compared to similar polyiso products.
Conclusion
Roof recovery can be a time consuming and labor-intensive process. But with Insulfoam Fanfold and Flute-fill insulation materials, you can save on recovery project costs and get off the roof as quickly as possible.
